FC Basel vs Manchester United preview
Basel managed to draw against Manchester United 3-3 at the first meeting the two teams in Group C at Old Trafford. It was Danny Welbeck two goals in the first round brings superior first MU. But in the second half, goals from Fabian Frei and two goals from Alexander Frei in less than 20 minutes immediately reverse the position to be 3-2. MU was spared from defeat thanks to goals from Ashley Young in the closing minutes of the game.
MU currently sits on the rank-2 Group C with nine points, equal with Benfica and one point ahead of Basel underneath. Manchester United only needs a draw to qualify for the next round. But will not be easy to remember Basel very hard to beat at home.
Of the 16 last season, Manchester United only twice failed to qualify from the Champions League group phase, namely in 1994/95 and 2005/06. MU certainly do not want knocked out for the third time in St. Jakob-Park.
The new Basel once escaped from the group stage along its participation in the Champions League, the 2002/03 season.
Basel home record against English teams was won twice, drawn twice and lost three times.
MU away record this season is very impressive, unbeaten in all competitions. MU even always win from the last five away games in all competitions, and not conceded at all.
Coming to the game against Basel, MU instead got bad news from Javier Hernandez who must miss a month because of an ankle injury. But Sir Alex Ferguson has indicated it will install the duo Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck. Dimitar Berbatov is also likely to appear if declared fit.
